There’s no denying that traditionally speaking, geeks and athletic activity aren’t exactly a match made in heaven. Whether it originates in a childhood spent with a book or a computer screen while being urged to go outside for some fresh air and exercise or from horrendous memories of struggling through physical education classes, a dread of getting too physical permeates the lives of many geeks.
But that need not be the case. From video games that allow players to engage in sports without leaving the comfort of their own living rooms to endless geeky apps to timers that seem to have more gadgetry than the space shuttle, the exercise world now seems tailor-made for geeks. In fact, it might even be straying ever so slightly toward the geek’s advantage. Add in the endless calculations than can be done to assess the relationship between nutritional choices, caloric intake and physical performance and there’s clearly a brave new world of geek fitness ahead.
**Disclaimer: I play a computer geek in real life
