Don’t Lose Sleep Over Losing Weight

If you’re unhappy with your health or figure, or perhaps you’ve been advised to lose weight for medical reasons, taking action to shed the pounds can be daunting. Weight loss is enviably daunting, with the thought of strict exercise schedules and tasteless diet food enough to turn anyone’s stomach. Did you realize however, there are simple changes you can make to your everyday life and begin losing weight without the stress? Here’s a look at easiest ways to start your weight loss:

Switch to a Stroll

Start with something simple. Switch public transport and short car trips for a brisk walk. There are other ways to get a stroll in too: swap your power lawn mower for a push model, get off your usual bus route a few stops early and walk the stairs at every opportunity.

Forget the Work Out

Exercise is vital to getting in shape, but that doesn’t mean you need to sign up to a sports team or get yourself a gym membership. Forget an official work out and find other ways to get fit whilst having fun. Enjoyment is key to successfully adding exercise to your week. Play Frisbee with the kids, chase your dog around the park, go bike riding or dance around your living room every evening; if it gets your blood pumping, the endorphins flowing and the calories burnt – you’re on the right track.

Get More Sleep

That’s right, having a good snooze can actually help you shed the pounds! A good night’s sleep is essential in controlling the hormones which affect appetite, so ensuring you get your 8 hours a night will mean that they are working in the way they should. In particular, sleep will make sure that Grehlin (the hormone which controls appetite) is not increased and that Leptin (the hormone which tells your brain when you’re full) is not lowered. If you’re having trouble sleeping it could be your mattress is the culprit. Old sagging mattresses won’t give you the support you need and will leave you tossing and turning all night. Invest in a new mattress as you should change your mattress every 7 years.

Try Sharing

We’re all taught that ‘sharing is caring’, and choosing to split your meal with a loved one can be a great way to show you care about your own waist line. If you really fancy something indulgent on the menu, sharing is an excellent way to only eat half as much without wasting good grub.

Keep Yourself Occupied

Eating is an extremely enjoyable activity for the majority of us, so it’s no wonder that it can easily become a pastime to. Overeating often happens when a person is bored – snacking is a relaxing and satisfying way to fill time. That’s why it’s important to keep yourself occupied at all times! Whether you’re engrossing yourself in a book, heading out for a walk or trying out a new hobby, find something to do that you enjoy – which doesn’t involve raiding the fridge.

Schedule Meal Time

Of course this isn’t possible when you’re out and about, but try to schedule when you eat and stick to it whenever you can – this includes setting a time for snacks. When you know when your next nibble is, you’re less likely to graze and if you can schedule your meal times you can also plan your meals ahead, avoiding unnecessary high-sugar or high-salt snacks along the way.
