With the use of needles, the patient’s skin is pierced with precision and accuracy ultimately alleviating the patient’s pain, whether it be physical or mental.

Clinical trials indicate that acupuncture remains beneficial to a variety of medical issues, allowing the necessity for prescription drugs to vanish. Although a myriad of benefits exist, acupuncture has 3 major benefits.

Strengthening the Immune System

Through the practicing of acupuncture, people are able to increase the efficiency of their immune system, leading to fewer colds and less frequent sicknesses.

Many people suffer from seasonal allergies that can be cured with this method with no side effects present. Studies show those who are treated with acupuncture, rather than present day medicines, are able to fight off minor infections and the flu due to a heightened and more efficient immune system.

Back Pain Relief

Most acupuncturists will agree that the number one reason a patient walks through their door is to rid of a drilling back pain. Back pain is a relatively common problem in many people, and acupuncture has proven itself to take this load off one’s back.

Dan Cherkin, PhD, an investigator at Group Health Center for Health Studies in Seattle, did a study and came to the conclusion that victims of back pain have the most relief with acupuncture rather than the top medications prescribed to the patients.

Allows for the Optimization and Effectiveness of Prescription Drugs

A study in China reveals that the use of prescription drugs in combination with treatments of acupuncture give the patient the best of both worlds. In the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, we find acupuncture allows people to reduce the dosage of their medication. Doing away with the egregious side effects, yet giving them the full benefits as if they were taking a full dosage of the pharmaceutical drug.

Common side effects of these medications are nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and weight gain. Through acupuncture these can be eliminated and the patients can still successfully overcome their physical and/or mental illnesses.

Conclusion About Acupuncture

Chinese medicine is an extremely complex system of medicine which takes years to learn and understand. If you choose a board certified and licensed acupuncture physician and doctor of Oriental medicine, you can be assured that your body is being treated to address the underlying cause of your health issue.

You see, acupuncture physicians are trained to spot patterns of illness in the body and how they pertain to Chinese medicine. Pain and illness are looked at as an imbalance in the body’s flow of qi, and whether this balance is physical, emotional, or mental, acupuncture can restore harmony in the body.

Give acupuncture a shot! I highly recommend it.
